Citizenship Day 2023 'Bee the Change'
Citizenship Day 2023 titled “Bee the Change” saw students and staff take part in a number of projects both within school and in the local community.
- Sister Act – 120 Senior citizens within the local community were invited into school to enjoy a musical performance of Sister Act performed by our students and musicians and enjoy an afternoon tea prepared by pupils in school.
- 30 students visited 3 local children’s centres to assist with gardening, tidying of the outdoor space and cleaning of toys. We already held an existing partnership with one Children’s Centre and due to the success of this project were able to expand to help with 2 additional centres this year.
- It was a privilege for 20 students and accompanying staff to spend the day in 2 local primary schools where they helped to run a day of reading activities. In addition, over 250 books were donated to Old Moat Primary School library. This builds on a longstanding partnership with the school and support of their library facility.
- Students and staff went to Fog Lane Park and Fletcher Moss Park to assist with gardening and tidying of these parks which are enjoyed widely by the local community.
- Artwork to be displayed at the Manchester Deaf Centre was made in school by year 7 & 8 pupils. In addition, students worked with a local artist to produce a mural to improve the environment at Cringle Fields.
Citizenship Day saw pupils and staff contribute 1395 hours on the day. It is difficult to estimate the numbers that benefit from WGS work on the day as many of the projects such as parks are used widely by the local community, however at least 250 people benefitted on the day.
