Assembly Programme 2024-2025

As part of Black History Month and our ongoing partnership with St Kentigern’s Primary school, students from WGS Sixth form visited the school to deliver an assembly. The assembly focussed on the theme for Black History Month 2024 – ‘Reclaiming Narratives’. Focussing on the life of Katherine Johnson, the assembly reclaimed the narrative of the American mathematician and her contributions to the NASA Space Programme. The KS2 primary audience also had the chance to ask questions and share their views about the treatment of black people in society today. This partnership was mutually beneficial as it was identified as a need by our partnership school. Through the planning and delivery of the assembly WGS student were able to use their oracy skills and had to ‘think on their feet’ to answer questions. Primary students broadened their cultural capital and the school thanked the girls for being excellent role models.
