Institute of Mathematics and its Applications and The Manchester Grammar School Maths Lecture

Sixth-form students from state and independent schools are invited to The Manchester Grammar School to hear from a visiting speaker on a range of mathematical topics.

Aims

The aim of the partnership is to enrich the education of sixth-form maths students by inviting a speaker from The Institute of Mathematics and its Applications to give the lecture on a mathematical topic of their choice.

Background

The first IMA sixth form lecture was held at The Manchester Grammar School in 1997. MGS and the IMA work collaboratively to arrange a speaker and invite local schools to the lecture.

Pupil Involvement

The lecture is aimed at students in the sixth form. 200 students from state and independent schools attend each year, although the lecture is always oversubscribed.
