Community Action with St Richard's Primary School

Boys from The Manchester Grammar School provide support to pupils at St Richard's Primary School in their maths lessons.

Aims

The aim is for boys from The Manchester Grammar School to support Year 5 pupils at St Richard's RC Primary School in their mathematics lessons by providing extra coaching.

Background

The relationship was set up as part of MGS's Community Action programme. Boys work with the class teacher to provide small group coaching in problem solving.

Resources

Boys are transported in a staff car to the primary school, whose facilities are used.

Pupil Involvement

Four Year 11 boys, plus a staff supervisor from The Manchester Grammar School and St Richard's RC Primary School.

Frequency

Volunteering lasts one hour, weekly, in pairs, during term time.
