'Young Visions' Art Exhibition

To display the artwork of Lower Sixth Artists following on from a preliminary site visit, the artists had six months to produce a body of work in response to the visit and subsequently show it in the context of the building. This was to the immediate benefit of the artists, the school and parents and the Cathedral and the wider community in Worcester.

Aims

To display the artwork of Lower Sixth Artists following on from a preliminary site visit, the artists had six months to produce a body of work in response to the visit and subsequently show it in the context of the building. This was to the immediate benefit of the artists, the school and parents and the Cathedral and the wider community in Worcester.

Background

RGS Art Department has visited the Cathedral for site visits to initiate Art projects in Year 10 and Year Twelve for several years, but this opportunity was identified by both RGS (RSG) and the Cathedral artist-in-residence, Sara Hayward and fulfilled educational criteria that the Cathedral has. The exhibition project is in its second year.

Resources

The resources of the Art Department were used to produce the work with staffing. The RGS maintenance provide the display boards and transport. The School Parent’s Association and the Alice Ottlian’s and Old Elizabethan’s jointly resourced the money for the cost of the frames (£4500) that were made by the Bevere Gallery in Worcester.

Impact

The work can also count towards the A Level examination that happens annually. This year group will be formally examined in June 2019. However, vthe work may/may not be included since it was at the start of the course. The benefit lies more in showing the pupil’s work in a professional context as artists and not just to the School community but to the wider community in Worcester.

Thanks were received from the Chapter House.

Pupil Involvement

The cohort of ten artists produced the work, two male, nine female, all Lower Sixth and aged 16-17.

Frequency

On-going, hopefully annual.
