Primary schools Netball Tournament

A netball tournament run by RGS Worcester for Year Five and Six Girls. The tournament was run in a round-robin style with each team playing 8 games, then a final between the two top top points scoring teams.

Aims

The main aim of this project is to bring together local primary schools in a competitive festival of netball. With 9 local primary schools attending the event the benefit is wide-reaching as each team brought a squad of 10 pupils.

Background

This event has now been run annually for over a decade, it began when it was felt that there was a gap for an inter-school primary schools tournament. Oasis Academy Warndon have attended the event for the past four years

Resources

To be able to run this event the schools netball courts needed to be available. Netball coaching staff and upper sixth PE students also needed to be available to run the event, organise teams and be umpires for the matches.

The financial contribution from RGS was £330 which covered catering, giveaways and certificates.

Impact

Each school attending an Outreach Event is asked to complete a feed back form which is then used to inform future events and how to improve them.

Comments received from Oasis Teachers were

‘Our girls are already talking about joining out of school Netball clubs. They really benefited from lots of game time against quality opposition which challenged all participants.’

Pupil Involvement

Our Upper Sixth and Year Ten pupils helped pout as RGS ambassadors and umpires to help ensure the smooth running of the event. Those attending were from Years Five and Six and were all girls.

Frequency

This is an annual event and due to its success is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.
