Aims
The event takes part in British Science Week in March and our event aims to stretch primary school children in their approach to science through a practical exercise. The event brings together teams from multiple schools where each team competes to win the prize for the best working structure.
Background
The Science Eggstravaganza was initially inherited from St Mary’s Convent school when they closed. RGS Worcester decided to keep the event running for the City Primary Schools in conjunction with British Science Week and have now held the event for four years.
Resources
The Science Eggstravaganza relies on the expertise of our Science Faculty and the availability of the larger school halls. In addition, the School's Science department teaching staff run the activities, as well as work by the marketing personnel and school prefects who help out supporting visiting children and carrying out the logistics of the event.
Impact
The quantitative value of the event is displayed in the high numbers each year and the returning of many schools annually. The qualitative value of the event can be measure through feedback. All teachers attending the event are asked to complete a feed back form either at the end of the event or by returning the form in the post. Replies are then logged and used to inform future similar events in relation to the 'Eggstravaganza' event:
“Many thanks for hosting yesterday’s event. The children have come back enthused by the experience, the whole afternoon was a super learning experiencefor the children involving teamwork and determination” Head Teacher, Broadheath Primary.
Pupil Involvement
Royal Grammar School Worcester utilises the School Prefects to accompany the visiting pupils and ensure the smooth running of the day. The visiting eighty pupils were all in Year Five and were a mixture of boys and girls from a variety of local primary schools.
Frequency
The Science Eggstravaganza is an annual event in the school calendar every March, whilst some of the schools will attend repeatedly there are always new partnerships formed at each event in an effort to support more local primary schools.
