Aims

Pupils support this Community Garden through crucial gardening and labouring work to promote their aims of encouraging biodiversity, limiting ‘food miles’, teaching people about where their food comes from and providing small charities with herbs and vegetables. This project supports the wider initiative of Transition Worcester, an environmental campaign aimed at promoting a more sustainable way of living.

Background

We have had an on-going relationship with this group that was formed due to their proximity to our school and our intention to create an environmental element to our Sixth Form Enrichment programme. Our previous Head of Enrichment identified the community group over three years ago and we intend to maintain the link for the foreesable future.

Resources

The main resource that we offer is our student and staff time and effort. One member of staff accompanies a rotating group of Sixth Formers who assist by offering their physical efforts in maintain a busy community garden that is always in need of manpower. The groups give up one hour bi-weekly over course of the academic year.

Impact

The impact can be seen in what the students accomplish during their time at the project. Often they are given the core jobs of clearing and weeding which can be seen in the crop produced, the Project are keen to maintain the relationship.

Pupil Involvement

Rotating groups of Sixth Formers and staff assist on a fortnightly basis with the assistance of staff.

Frequency

The project occurs once a fortnight throughout the course of the academic year. The project occurs every year as part of our Enrichment programme.
