Christmas with the Big Band / Senior Piano Concert
The residents of the local Almshouses are invited to both these musical events to provide them with an evening out that is accessible, near by and free of charge.
Aims
The residents of the local Almshouses are invited to both these musical events to provide them with an evening out that is accessible, nearby and free of charge.
Background
The School recently moved the Big Band Concert from its Autumn slot to one nearer Christmas. With this move it was decided that the event could prove to be one that the alms house residents might enjoy during the festive season. As such, the residents were invited and catered for with reserved seating and refreshments free of charge. Following on from the success of these events, the School decided to invite them to the Senior Piano Concert as well.
Resources
The School provides its Halls, its musicians and hosts the residents. They are catered for and have seating reserved for them as well. The School's Music staff host the evening and the School covers all the costs of the event including that of the professional pianist at the Piano Concert.
Impact
The qualitative benefits are evident on the respective nights and the enjoyment can be measured by the returning residents each year.
Pupil Involvement
Christmas with the Big Band is performed entirely by pupils from the School's Big Band as well as soloists from our Chamber Choir. The Senior Piano concert begins with performances from the School's top pianists before the professional plays. School prefects are used to host the evenings.
Frequency
Both these events are annual.
