Collaboration and Innovation at the RGS EdTech Study Tour
RGS Worcester welcomed 18 visiting teachers, school leaders and education professionals for a national EdTech Study Tour, led by Director of Innovation & RGSW International, Mr John Jones, and head of computing and digital learning at RGS The Grange, Mr Matt Warne.
The visit showcased RGS Worcester’s approach to purposeful digital learning and AI, demonstrating how technology is embedded across the curriculum to enhance learning. A key highlight was the role of the school’s pupil Digital Geniuses, who support staff and peers and play a central role in fostering a confident, informed digital culture.
Aims
The aim of the EdTech Study Tour was to share best practice in digital learning and AI, providing visiting professionals with practical insight into how technology can be used meaningfully to enhance teaching and learning. The event also aimed to encourage professional dialogue and collaboration around the future of AI in education. Critical success factors included open professional exchange, pupil voice, authentic classroom experiences and strong leadership in digital innovation.
Background
The Study Tour was developed as part of RGS Worcester’s wider work in digital innovation and professional collaboration. Recognised nationally for its digital learning and AI practice, the school identified an opportunity to host a visit that would allow educators to see technology in action and engage in informed discussion around its effective use. The event brought together national education voices to support shared learning and reflection.
Resources
The event utilised RGS Worcester’s teaching spaces and communal areas, beginning with refreshments in Eld Hall and followed by classroom visits across a range of subjects including textiles, design technology, chemistry and PE. The programme was supported by senior leaders, teaching staff, pupil Digital Geniuses and support teams. External contributors included Ty Goddard (Edtech UK), Bob Usher (LGfL), Phil Hedger (LEO Academy Trust) and Joanne Stone (Discovery Schools Trust). The visit ran for a full school day and was hosted by RGS Worcester.
Impact
Qualitative feedback from delegates was extremely positive. Visitors commented on the confidence of pupils, the natural integration of technology, and the clarity of purpose underpinning digital practice at RGS Worcester, noting that technology was used “with purpose, not presence”.
Staff were praised for their expertise and enthusiasm, and the school was recognised as a leading voice in innovative and thoughtful EdTech practice. The event strengthened professional networks and encouraged ongoing dialogue around AI and digital learning.
Pupil Involvement
Pupils played an active role throughout the day, particularly through the Digital Geniuses programme, presenting to delegates, engaging in discussion with visitors and articulating their experiences of digital learning.
Pupils across a range of year groups were involved, showcasing confidence, digital fluency and strong communication skills. Participation was mixed gender.
Frequency
The EdTech Study Tour is planned as an annual or twice-yearly event, providing regular opportunities for educators and school leaders to visit RGS Worcester, share best practice and engage in professional dialogue around digital learning and AI. Each visit runs over a full school day.
