Partnership Maths Lessons
A specialist maths teacher offers masterclasses for small groups of up to 6 children. They work on a range of problem-solving activities, with the aim of developing strategies for tackling problems and improving mathematical reasoning. The activities will build on mathematical skills and knowledge developed in KS2 and take place at the Partnership school.
To develop a mutually beneficial partnership between the two schools with a particular focus on developing Maths skills. Primary School children have the opportunity to experience lessons run by specialist teachers from our Maths Department in their own schools. Our own teachers are benefitting by gaining experience in teaching in the Primary environment.
The Maths Department at St Albans School have offered this programme for several years, alongside the weekly Gifted and Talented Maths sessions for year 6 pupils from several local schools. The Maths Dept.is keen to share their specialist skills with partner schools and support them in developing their own curriculum. They are happy to tailor sessions to a school’s requirements.
The Head of Partnership coordinates the programme that is run by a specialist Maths teacher who is timetabled for this Partnership activity one afternoon a week.
We ask for regular feedback from the Primary Schools who are involved in the program and adapt the sessions accordingly.
