Digital media workshops

The digital media sessions aim to develop pupils’ skills in computing using a versatile, free digital platform called Adobe Express. Pupils learn how to design websites, make video content and digital posters in order to learn or consolidate curriculum content. Our digital lead teacher enthusiastically uses this platform in his own teaching and works with primary class teachers to design tasks suitable for their curriculum.

Aims

To develop a mutually beneficial partnership between the two schools with a particular focus on developing the use of digital media in the primary classroom.

Background

This is a new project and came about as a result of one of our science teacher’s enthusiasm for the use of digital media – especially Adobe Express in the classroom and his desire to share his knowledge with local Partnership primary schools.

Resources

The Head of Partnership coordinates the programme that is run by a specialist teacher who is timetabled for this Partnership activity every Tuesday afternoon. The primary schools provide their own laptops of tablets for pupils to use.

Impact

Primary School children gain experience in using a different learning platform and benefit from the experience of our digital lead teacher. We will ask for regular feedback from the primary schools who are involved in the program.

Pupil Involvement

A St Albans School science teacher leads the sessions and works alongside a class of Year 5 or 6 primary school children.

Frequency

Ongoing project, every Tuesday afternoon during term time.
