STEM club
Children in Years 5 and 6 from our local primary school are invited to join the Prep STEM club. Children work on the CREST Award alongside each other in a purpose built Science Lab.
Aims
For the partner school:
To experience a purpose built Science Lab & use a wide range of materials/apparatus.
To carry out investigations that are not practical within a small Primary School.
For all children:
To encourage children to become independent & reflective learners through enquiry-based project work.
To enthuse children for a love of Science - where learning goes beyond the classroom & is seen as fun!
To foster friendships with peers from another school
Background
This partnership came from a discussion between the Prep Science teacher & head teacher. The STEM club is an hour after the local primary school has closed & is therefore reliant on parents transporting their children to & from the College.
Resources
Volunteer students from the Senior School support.
Impact
Children are at ease with one another in the session.
Anticipated outcomes:
Improved self-efficacy & confidence in children.
Improved social cohesion between the schools.
Children more familiar with using Scientific terminology
Frequency
Weekly for 45 minutes
