Solar Car Project
Students from Philpots Manor School, a school for young people with special educational needs, visit the College weekly to carry out a Solar Car project for their DofE programme.
Aims
To introduce the technologies behind the construction of a solar car.
To teach the students the use of an AutoCAD package called Fusion 360.
To give the students the job of designing and building a solar cassette.
To offer the students the opportunity to be off-site & engaged in a project that is exciting & different.
Background
The partner school contacted us in the first instance. After tours of both sites, various staff members were linked up to consider possible partnerships. The Solar Car Project Manager liaised with the DofE lead at the partner school and this project was born from that.
