Maths Support
Our Prep Maths Lead visits St Peter's CofE Primary School to support the teaching of Maths in Year 4. The class teacher plans the lesson & gives the initial input, and our staff member then supports the lower attaining children whilst the class teacher continues to work with the rest of the class, supported by a TA.
On occasion, the Prep Maths Lead takes the whole lesson.
Aims
To support the class teacher
To create space for the class teacher to stretch & challenge children
To enable the lower attaining children to have more individualised learning support
For the staff to learn from one another's teaching styles
Background
It was observed that this cohort of children had wide ranging abilities in Maths & in some cases, little interest. Through discussion, the idea of team teaching materialised, allowing the class teacher to stretch & challenge where appropriate & the lower attaining children have more individualised support.
Impact
Anticipated outcomes:
Children's attainment in Maths is raised across the cohort
A keener interest for Maths is evident
Strong relationship built between Prep Maths Lead & class teacher
