Reading Programme at Roxeth Primary School

Harrow boys visit Roxeth to read with pupils at the school. They work with a variety of children each week with the aim of improving their literacy skills.

Aims

The aims of the reading project are to improve the literacy levels of the children in the school and to develop the Harrovians' skills as teachers and leaders. It was important for both partners that the sessions are enjoyable for the pupils at Roxeth and for the Harrow boys taking part in the reading project.

Background

The scheme was organised by Harrow's Director of Shaftesbury Enterprise, Tim Dalton, and the headteacher of Roxeth.

Resources

The Harrow students are not accompanied by a member of staff and the project is overseen by their House Master and a Sixth Form student. No other resources are involved.

Impact

The project has been very positive both for the Harrow boys and the primary school children.

Pupil Involvement

The Harrow boys were from Year 12. The pupils from Roxeth varied in age.

Frequency

Weekly reading sessions took place on Wednesday afternoons during the winter and spring terms.
