Reading Intervention Club at Whitehall Park Primary School

Year 12 and 13 student volunteers from Channing Senior school support students at Whitehall Park to improve their reading skills through dedicated intervention.

Aims

To create an opportunity for Whitehall Park pupils to improve their reading and comprehension skills.  Pupils are helped by Channing School volunteers who have been provided with potential questions to build confidence and literacy skills of the Whitehall Park pupils. 

Background

In discussion with Whitehall Park, we identified some of the pupils' potential needs and whether there was a mutually beneficial activity which would allow for Channing students to focus on essential skills. 

Resources

The activity is held at Whitehall Park with sixth Form Channing volunteers, a Whitehall Park specialist teacher and invited KS2 Whitehall Park pupils.

Sixth Form Channing volunteers, a Whitehall Park specialist teacher and invited KS2 Whitehall Park pupils all took part in the initiative. 

Frequency

This is a weekly activity from 8.00 am to 8.30 each Wednesday.
