Cookery Club at St. Aloysius' College - Year 10 and 11 students
Year 10 and 11 Channing Senior School students alongside Year 11 St. Aloysius’ College students participate in a Cookery Club run by an external chef organised by Channing School.
Aims
To create a skill set for Year 11 St Aloysius’ College students as well as year 10 and 11 Channing students, to learn how to cook specific dishes and engage with each other in a more informal and collaborative environment.
Background
Although we have previously held cookery class at St. Aloysius’ College, we now have an employed external chef to run the classes. We wanted to continue developing more opportunities that could give students new skills, in a social environment that encourages collaboration and enjoyment. As Channing does not have a Food technology room nor lessons in food technology, the partnership with St. Aloysius’ allowed for an opportunity for our students to learn how to cook whilst the older students at St. Aloysius' could also learn to cook more sophisticated dishes.
Resources
St Aloysius' College are sharing their kitchen facilities with us to facilitate this club, including utility costs. Channing School provides the staff, the catering equipment and the ingredients for recipes.
Impact
Provides opportunities for students from different schools/backgrounds to engage with each other and learn new skills.
Pupil Involvement
The Cookery Club is run by Channing staff for Year 11 in St Aloysius and Years 10 and 11 from Channing, in a half-termly rota of age groups.
Frequency
Runs weekly after school for 90 minutes.
