Higher Education Day with St. Aloyisus’ College and Highbury Fields Year 12 students.
Year 12 Channing Senior School and St. Aloysius' College students engaged in a day which focussed on providing information and advice regarding potential future learning opportunities. Highbury Fields Year 12 students also joined the Springboard to the Future Fair which included over 35 exhibitors.
Aims
To create a pathway for Year 12 St Aloysius’ College and Highbury Fields students to engage in an intimate and informal environment with different providers, such as universities, large corporations and organisations. To enable students to ask questions and develop their understanding of options which they have not previously considered. To provide an opportunity for Year 12 Channing students to engage with a diverse range of students with a variety of perspectives on Higher Education.
Background
This is a new initiative which started in Spring 2022. We are hoping to explore partnerships with local State schools, including St Aloysius' College as well as Highbury Fields. We wanted to develop more opportunities that could potentially raise aspirations for students, particularly those who may not otherwise consider HE.
Resources
The Director of HE and Partnership and the HE and Partnership Coordinator organised the event with specialist sessions on Degree Apprenticeships, medical applications, Oxbridge and GAP years, alongside a Fair with over 35 exhibitors. Students from St. Aloysius’ college were provided with lunch as well as other resources on the day
Impact
The students had the opportunity to speak 1:1 with admissions and recruitment staff from different organisations which helped them develop their interpersonal skills. Students were exposed to a range of different avenues post 18.
The day also provided opportunities for students from different schools/backgrounds to engage with each other.
Pupil Involvement
Over 40 St. Aloysius College students (Year 12 cohort) and the equivalent number of Highbury Fields Year 12 students were involved in the day alongside over 60 Channing Year 12 students.
Frequency
Annual event.
