Sport - Shared Swimming Pool

13 organisations, including maintained schools, use the Walthamstow Hall Swimming Pool on a weekly basis. In addition, two Walthamstow Hall staff swimming coaches provide swimming lessons to rising stars.

Aims

The aim of these partnerships is to provide access to a swimming pool for members of the wider Sevenoaks and Tonbridge community.

The immediate beneficiaries of the partnership are the 958 people who swim at the pool through the partnership organisations, ranging from toddlers to triathletes.

Background

Sharing the Walthamstow Hall School Pool has been in place since the new pool was opened in 2008.

Resources

At the heart of these swimming partnerships is obviously the pool and its changing room and showering facilities. Central to the smooth operation of the pool is the School's dedicated pool maintenance caretaker and school caretaking staff who enable out of hours access.

Partners make a financial contribution to use the pool.

Impact

Many of the partnership organisations are using the pool to teach children to swim (approximately 450 children per week), whilst others are coaching children to swim to regional and county level (approximately 330 per week). The remaining clubs provide swimming provision for older swimmers and athletes (approximately 180 per week).

Frequency

School partners use the pool throughout the year in both term and holiday time. The pool is in use seven days a week from 7:00 - 22:00.
