Sport - Hosting Sports Tournaments

Walthamstow Hall has a long tradition of organising and hosting sporting events and tournaments in which teams from many schools in the maintained sector compete. These include; U10 Netball, U11 Badminton, Senior Rounders and U19 Gymnastics.

Aims

The aim of organising and hosting sporting events is to engage the wider school community in sport, providing tournaments and venues for competition.

The critical factors for success are the time of Walthamstow Hall's Director of Sport, PE teachers and coaches and the availability of high quality sports facilities (Sports Centre, courts and pitch).

The immediate beneficiaries are the student competitors and their teachers. 

U19 Regional Individual Floor and Vault Gymnastics Competition: 70 students from Tonbridge Grammar, St John's Catholic Comprehensive, Davison High and Tunbridge Wells Grammar competed.

Rounders School League for Sevenoaks and Tonbridge Area: organised and run by Walthamstow Hall's Director of Sport every summer. Matches take place at Walthamstow Hall and other schools. Hundreds of Senior School aged students from Year 7 - 12 participate. The league includes the following schools: Tonbridge Grammar, Knole Academy, Trinity, Hillview, St Gregory's, Bennett Memorial, Weald of Kent, Tunbridge Wells Girls' Grammar, Mascalls Academy, Hugh Christie.

U10 (Year 5) Netball Tournament, this long established event involves teams from 20 local primary and prep schools, including Amherst, Anthony Roper, Chiddingstone, St John's and Sevenoaks Primary. Each school sends a team of 5 players. 

 

Background

The tournaments tend to be the ideas of the Director of Sport and her team.

 

 

Resources

U10 (Year 5) Netball Tournament: This event is run by the Director of Sport and a team of five teachers and coaches.

Rounders League: This event is organised by Walthamstow Hall's Director of Sport.

Events are hosted free of charge.

 

Impact

Hosting and organising sporting events enables pupils from many schools to experience sporting competition at many different levels.

Pupil Involvement

Walthamstow Hall pupils from Year 5 to Year 13 participate in the sporting competitions held at the School. Senior students, especially Sports scholars and members of squads, also help in operations on the day, for example, directing teams, helping with refreshments, scores etc.

Frequency

Walthamstow Hall hosts sporting events throughout the year.
