Music Workshops: String and Singing

Pupils from local primary schools attended a day-long workshop devoted to playing strings. The pupils received ensemble teaching from Walthamstow Hall specialist strings teachers and an outside professional and performed a concert for parents at the end of the afternoon.

Pupils from local primary schools also joined a day-long workshop day devoted to singing. The pupils were coached as a choir by Walthamstow Hall’s singing teacher and an outside professional opera singer and gave a performance from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat to parents at the end of the day. The day was free of charge and included lunch and refreshments.

In previous years Walthamstow Hall’s Director of Music rehearsed and conducted Faure's Requiem with a chorus made up of a community choir and Walthamstow Hall students and staff and soloists who were music teachers from the School. The concert raised over £1,000 for the British Legion Poppy Appeal. Walthamstow Hall pupils from Years 9 - 13, who sing in the Senior Choir, sang as members of the combined community choir.

Aims

Walthamstow Hall's Director of Music established the Strings Workshop Day to enable primary school pupils to experience being taught in and performing in a strings ensemble.

The aim of the Singing Workshop was to introduce primary school pupils to music which they may not have sung or experienced before and give them the opportunity to be taught by a singing professional.

We also hosted two concerts that were both the initiatives of Walthamstow Hall Sixth Form students who wanted to use the musical talents of their peers to raise money for the churches, who were the immediate beneficiaries of the money raised.

Strings Concert, St Mary’s Church Riverhead

St Luke’s Church Community Lunchtime Concert
