Sixth Form Volunteering
Walthamstow Hall has a long relationship with neighbouring Primary School St Johns. Sixth form students volunteer as part of their weekly timetable. The majority of Year 12 and 13 students are currently volunteering at St Johns or fellow neighbouring primary school Lady Boswells. Students help across the curriculum.
Aims
Sixth Form students provide class room assistance and use their particular talents (for example, sport, maths, English) to help teachers.
Background
The volunteering is carefully structured with the Head Teacher of St John's drawing up a plan of which skills are needed and where. Sixth Form students then sign up for a specific role which they fulfil every week for the duration of Year 12 and Year 13.
Impact
Walthamstow Hall volunteers and the skills and levels aof engagement that they bring are highly valued by St John's. The two Schools will work together to produce more formal data on outcomes for the St John's pupils.
Pupil Involvement
The Walthamstow Hall volunteers are in Years 12 and 13.
Frequency
Volunteers give at least an hour of their time each week, attending a regular slot.
