Sixth Formers from Francis Holland School volunteer at St Vincent's RC Primary School
Sixth Formers visit St Vincent's every week to do reading with younger pupils.
Aims
The aim of this project is to broaden the horizons of the Sixth Formers from Francis Holland and to prepare them for a life where they support others and help those who are less able. In this case, our Sixth Formers are helping learners to read.
Background
This project has been running for a number of years. Francis Holland School encourages all girls in the Sixth Form to volunteer in the local community and this is an important strand of that initiative.
Resources
Teacher time to oversee the partnership. Sixth Form time to offer to help.
Impact
There is a qualitative benefit to each individual boy or girl who is heard reading aloud at St Vincent's. There is also a benefit to each girl from Francis Holland who offers her time voluntarily.
Pupil Involvement
Sixth Formers from Francis Holland (all girls) and pupils in Years 4 and 5 at St Vincent's (girls and boys).
Frequency
Weekly throughout the school year.
