Lower VI sports leaders teach fundamental movement skills
A group of Lower VI sports leaders attend St Joseph's Catholic Primary School once a week to coach fundamental movement skills through a variety of activities for approximately 40 Year 3 students. This is a valued partnership offering benefits for both Sixth Formers and Primary students
Aims
The need was identified by a member of the sports department, beneficiaries are the students at the primary school who get to learn fundamental movement skills from our Sports Leaders.
Background
This partnership has been established for three years
Resources
Students from the Lower Sixth who are studying for their Sports Leaders qualification travel once a week by coach with one teacher for 12 weeks to teach Year 3 students at their primary school.
FHS students use FHS resources to run these sessions free of charge.
Impact
Outcomes for Primary School:
- Build positive relationship between the two schools
- Learn fundamental movement skills that will transfer into everyday life.
- Increase Physical Activity time for Year 3 students at the school.
Sixth Form:
- Develop interpersonal and self management skills
- Develop skills in coaching and leading small groups
Pupil Involvement
Mixed gender aged 8 years old.
40 students in the class.
Frequency
Once a week for approx. 12 weeks.
