El Shaddai Charitable Trust

The aims of this ongoing partnership are to support the El Shaddai Charitable Trust which works in Goa and other States of India to implement the Child Rights Act 2003/05 for orphans, street children and children coming from economically underprivileged conditions. Children are cared and provided with food, clothing, shelter and education, for a better future.

Background

Established by UCS staff in 2009, students have the opportunity to work in a variety of projects including street rescue, slum schools, shelters, and children homes. We support the charity financially such as by building classrooms for the school, by bringing clothing, books and toys for the children and by working with the children themselves.

Resources

UCS staff and student volunteers. Resources are also brought to Goa from charitable donations from other parents, students and staff.

Impact

We raise on average £8000 per year to contribute to the project. Impacts include; improvement in spoken and written English; books, toys and craft materials help develop creative skills; and the children are made to feel important and loved. The consistent message from UCS is to be ambitious and aspirational, giving hope to the children we visit.

Pupil Involvement

There are seven students and three members of UCS staff who attend the project each year.

Frequency

Every year for two weeks during the October half term.
