Year 3 Partnership Day

Children from three local primary schools - Bayford Primary, Hertingfordbury Cowper and Millmead Primary School were invited to take part in a Year 3 Partnership day.

The day consisted of water safety, swimming, den building, outdoor education, fitness, team building and healthy eating / cooking.

Aims

The aim of the day was to foster and develop the deepening relationships between SJITP and our partnership schools. The Head Teacher identified the opportunity for SJITP to host a larger partnership event focussing on one year group and having a greater range of activities that would engage and enthral the children fostering team spirit and a collegiate approach to problem-solving activities.

The critical factors were having the staff from SJITP to lead the different activities and for the kitchen to facilitate all the children being offered a hot lunch.

The children from all four schools were the beneficiaries.

Background

The Head Teacher identified that SJITP could host a larger multi school partnership event. The three schools invited to join us for the day were all part of our larger partnership group that we have supported and worked alongside in the past 10+ years.

Resources

The day was meticulously planned and the children would be grouped (mixed schools) and they would carousel around the five planned activities. We used the school hall, playground, woods, swimming pool and dinning hall for the activities. A mix of teaching and non-teaching staff led the activities with support from the staff from our visiting schools.

The school provided the children with a hot lunch (although some children chose to bring a packed lunch).

There were 107 children from Year 3 mixed gender.

There was no financial contribution asked for from the participating schools.

Impact

Anecdotal evidence from both the staff and children who attended thoroughly enjoyed the day and range of activities offered and the friendships they made.

Pupil Involvement

21 Year 3 pupils from SJITP and 85 children from the three local primary schools were involved. The pupils were 7-8 years of age and mixed gender.

Frequency

This was the first of our annual 'larger' year group partnership events.
