Mystery In The History

Children from three schools used different sources to discover if characters/legendary figures from history actually existed.

Using books and laptops the children were mixed together to see if they could find a definitive answer.

Aims

To work collaboratively with pupils from Years 5 and 6 from Grange Park Prep and Hertford St Andrew Primary to use critical thinking skills to critique sources of information - ascertaining accuracy and honesty. 

The children all benefitted from working in mixed teams of three to ask critical questions to see if they could discover if Robin Hood, King Arthur and William Tell actually existed.

Background

The Head of Partnerships working with the Head of Humanities at school looked at offering the More Bale pupils in history an opportunity to work with peers from local school. Enhancing the provision and opportunities offered.

The Partnership is ongoing with additional academic, artistic and sporting opportunities being identified and offered.

Resources

School laptops and a classroom with internet access was used along with purchased books and books from the library. Media platforms such as DVD and YouTube were used.

Teaching staff from all three schools were included. Refreshments were provided as was transport from and the local train station and Primary School.

There was no financial contribution from either school required. 

24 mixed gender children too part in the event.

Impact

Developing links with peers from different schools, sharing experiences and allowing the children to work independently - in thoughts and actions within small groups.

Pupil Involvement

24 mixed gender 10/11 year olds (Years 5 and 6).
