ROYMUN 2024

Our annual ROYMUN conference was a resounding success, with pupils from Woodbridge School, Brentwood School, Mayfield School, Ipswich School, Cheadle Hulme School, Gordon’s School, Langley School, Charterhouse School, and Kimbolton School showcasing their negotiation skills and passion for heated debates.

Aims

The event began with a formal dinner on Friday night, where we welcomed the delegates. Saturday featured a lively Eurovision party, adding to the excitement.

Over the weekend, the conference featured three discussions in each committee room. The Security Council tackled the complex issue of Israel and Palestine, the Human Rights Committee debated women's reproductive rights, and the Environment Conservation Committee addressed poaching and habitat destruction.

On Saturday, starting with the Human rights committee, there were some interesting events that dramatically unfolded.

Meanwhile, in the library, the security council had some interesting political views towards the war between Palestine and Israel; with Japan, USA and France dominating the floor, sharing their ideas on how they can help and support the citizens caught in the middle of the conflict.

In the Education room, an interesting discussion was held regarding about AI. .

Another noteworthy resolution came from the Human Rights room, we saw an interesting debate and discussion on how to prevent catastrophic events from happening.

Impact

All in all, this was an exciting conference and allowed Mrs Routledge to see out her tenure as Director of MUN with the biggest and best ROYMUN yet.

Mrs Routledge said “I am so proud of all of the pupils who have taken part in this event; they have done an amazing job with helping organise and run the conference and in their chairing positions. I have been really fortunate in my time to work with some fantastic ROYMUN committees and I am sure that they have brilliant careers ahead of them!”

Pupil Involvement

One of the delegates, who stayed in Anson House throughout their stay, described their weekend as “life-changing”, saying: “The Royal Hospital School is a beautiful site to stay on, and was a fantastic school with the requirements needed to have great debates. With a mixture of silly and serious debates, it eased and settled my nerves down to start off my MUN journey. Seeing that this was the first away conference I had ever been to, it excites me for the many others I will attend. The chairs were welcoming and helpful, teaching me ways I could become a better debater which will help for future conferences. The food and accommodation were excellent, and added to the enjoyment of this conference."
