Academic Mentoring Scheme

The Scheme provides Year 11 female pupils in schools within our local community with remote academic mentoring from Sixth Form students at The Maynard who have studied the same subject.

The first partnership took place this term with Paignton Academy. Students were carefully selected and paired in subject areas and it has been really well received by the students in both schools. 

Aims

The provision is mutually beneficial to all the students, the partner school students receive weekly tuition in topics areas that they have chosen, and students at The Maynard School develop skills in leadership and communication through planning their sessions and then providing the tutoring.

Mentoring sessions take place on a weekly basis. outside of curriculum time to avoid disruption to lessons. 

Impact

All students have been asked to provide feedback, they have found it mutually beneficial and are keen to continue.
