Science Outreach to local state primary schools
Following a successful application for a 'Schools Engagement' project fund run by the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Science Department at St Mary's School is working with pupils from St Alban's Catholic Primary School.
The title of the project is 'Bridging Chemistry with the world around' and will involve practical activities to underline skills such as team work, ability to plan (organisation skills), analyse data, writing of conclusions and communication skills.
Aims
The project aims to target 15 -20 pupils from St Albans Primary School in Years 4 & 5. Pupils will have the opportunity to work in a laboratory to carry out their own Chemistry experiments using scientific equipment. The project involves 5 sessions, each 1.5 hours long. Sessions aim to help pupils to see the practical applications of their experiments in the real world and within concrete careers.
Pupil Involvement
The project is aimed at Years 4 & 5 (pupils aged 8 - 10 years old) from local state primary schools in Cambridge.
