Annual Creative Writing Competition
Since 2012 St Mary’s has been running a Creative Writing Competition for young writers aged 9-13 from schools within the county. The competition is judged in two different age groups and writers are required to theme their work according to the theme of that years competition. This year's theme was 'Mystery and Detective Fiction'.
Aims
To encourage young writers in Cambridgeshire.
Background
The competition is now in its seventh year.
Resources
Teachers from our English department are required to judge the entries. Presentations take place at a reception at our Senior School site.
Impact
The final presentations to winners take place within our school, and the ceremony features extracts from a variety of entrants’ work. The presentation also includes a talk from well known authors and/or poets e.g. Joanna Miller thereby adding to the pupils’ extracurricular enrichment.

250+ pupils aged 9 – 13 from local state and independent schools.
