Annual Creative Writing Competition
St Mary’s has been running a Creative Writing Competition for young writers aged 9-13 from schools across the county. The competition is judged in two different age groups and writers are asked to theme their work according to the theme of that years competition.
Aims
To encourage young writers in Cambridgeshire.
Resources
Teachers from our English department are required to judge the entries. Presentations take place at a reception at our senior school site.
Impact
The final presentations to winners take place within our school, and the ceremony features extracts from a variety of entrants’ work. The presentation also includes a talk from well known authors and/or poets, for example Joanna Miller, thereby adding to the pupils’ extracurricular enrichment.

250+ pupils aged 9 – 13 from local state and independent schools.
