Oxbridge interview and application support
Working alongside our neighbours, The Piggott School, we offer the opportunity to learn about applying to Oxford or Cambridge, the early application process and offer practice interviews with RBCS staff from a range of academic departments.
Aims
The aim of this partnership is to provide the opportunity for students from The Piggott School and RBCS to practice their interview technique. The focus is applying to Oxbridge.
The need was identified following a discussion with the Head of Sixth Form at The Piggott School. The opportunity of working with a geographically close partner with experience in this area was a critical factor in the development of the relationship.
The immediate beneficiaries will be the students applying for Oxbridge in both partner schools. There will be the opportunity for a greater number of staff from both schools to be involved.
Background
This need was identified by the teacher I/C of Oxbridge applications who wanted to approach a local school with a similar academic aspirations. The Piggott School is only 2 miles away and has a local catchment.
This partnership was set up in the Autumn of 2024 and will take place annually.
Resources
The interviews will be held outside normal school hours at RBCS. Staff will give up their free time to run the practice interviews. The facilities at RBCS will be used and no financial contribution is expected.
Future collaboration on Higher Education applications will be planned using the expertise of staff in both schools.
Impact
The anticipated outcomes for both schools will be an increase in the number of students making successful applications to Oxford or Cambridge.
Pupil Involvement
Year 13 pupils from both schools will be able to discuss their experiences and take part in the process. We hope to develop further pupil interactions between the schools.
Frequency
It is hoped that the activity will continue to grow and both schools can extend to interviews for pupils wishing to study medicine, veterinary and dentistry.
