Donation of English books
The English department at RBCS redistributed 30 boxes of fiction and non-fiction texts to local schools and schools in Africa.
Books For Africa remains the largest shipper of donated text and library books to the African continent, shipping over 64 million books to all 55 countries on the African continent since 1988.
Aims
The aim of this work was to redistribute used books from the English department to primary schools in the local area and wider communities. The need was identified by the second in charge of English at RBCS. The factors for success included funding the distribution of books and ensuring that texts were appropriate for the recipients. The immediate beneficiaries are pupils in local primary schools who benefit from sets of books for English and communities in Africa.
Background
The need was identified by the second in charge of English at RBCS who wanted to find a useful home for books no longer used by the school. This is the first year we have worked with these partners.
Resources
The sorting of books was undertaken by staff and students in the English department. There is no financial contribution for these books and freight charges were paid for by the school.
