Mental Health Award

Holme Grange School has been working with the Leeds Carnegie Mental Health Award and has been awarded the Gold Standard.

Aims

Our objective is to give our students the ability to develop their knowledge surrounding mental health and, as a result, helping students understand that they are in control of how they feel. At Holme Grange, we want to help students realise that they have the tools to help themselves and that there is a support network in place.

Our long-term goal is to produce more resilient students and families.

Background

The School provides a wide range of activities to boost the wellbeing of both pupils and staff, including mindfulness sessions, yoga classes and buddy systems as well as working with outside agencies. Mrs Robinson, Headteacher, said: “The Award framework has allowed us to celebrate the work we do and as we completed an audit of the provision across the School, remind ourselves of how extensive our work on wellbeing is and how embedded it is into the life of the School. The award recognises and validates the hard work and effort of the staff team and the school community at Holme Grange.”

Impact

In 2021 Holme Grange was awarded a Gold standard for its outstanding mental health and wellbeing provision. We achieved the School Mental Health Award which is delivered by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools. Upon winning the award, Headteacher Mrs Claire Robinson said “The Award framework has allowed us to celebrate the work we do and as we completed an audit of the provision across the School, remind ourselves of how extensive our work on wellbeing is and how embedded it is into the life of the School. The award recognises and validates the hard work and effort of the staff team and the school community at Holme Grange”. Achieving the award is not just recognition of a whole-school approach to mental health, it’s a recognition of our commitment to improving the life chances of children and engaging with the wider community including staff and parents. This award is recognition of the importance that the School puts on mental wellbeing within the Holme Grange community. Considering the needs of others is at the heart of the Holme Grange Way as is a culture of acceptance, trust and openness.
