Holme Grange School hosts virtual carol services

On the 12th December 2020 Holme Grange School hosted two virtual Carol services live with partnering school Our Lady Nazareth, and saw over 1200 views and streams. Guests viewed the service over Vimeo Live.

Students from Holme Grange School took part in independent readings, orchestra and choir hymns. OLN pupils contributed with videos of students singing Christian songs and prayers. Overall, the event was a fantastic opportunity for children to take part, learn about the Christian story and the community. The service also included camels and a live nativity scene. Christian stories were shared from international guests such as Brother Joseph (live from Kenya) and Father Richard Lamey (St Paul’s Wokingham Church).

The virtual Carol services celebrated community, together and apart, shining light on the importance of charity and education.

Aims

Celebrate the Christian Story with community, charity and collaboration.

Educating pupils on the Christmas story and beliefs, shining light on prayer, hymns and readings.

Background

Claire Robinson identified the opportunity and set out for the event to take place.

This was the first Live Virtual Carol Service bringing two communities together at an important time.

Resources

Holme Grange School hosted the Virtual Carol Services using its own grounds and school technical equipment to stream live.

The event included all staff such as administration and IT.

Each Carol Service was around 1 hour long, with a Prep Service in the afternoon and an Eaton Grange service in the evening.

Impact

Due to the service being in a live video formant rather than the usual physical community, this event was the first of its kind (due to Coronavirus restrictions).

The outcome has lead to international communities being brought together to celebrate Christmas and the story of Jesus Christ.

Pupil Involvement

Pupils from all ages in Holme Grange School and OLN contributed to the services.

Frequency

This is a single event, unless there are restrictions which leads to a virtual event in the future too.
