An evening with Andy Kemp
St Gabriel's Society hosted An Evening with Andy Kemp. The evening was based upon a talk entitled ‘The Curious Case of the Commons’ and was a lively illustrated canter through the curious history of Greenham Common from prehistory to today. This evening was a special event in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, which Andy touched upon within his talk.
Aims
The aims of the evening were to explore the history of Greenham Common from prehistory to today. The evening was an exciting insight into how the common has developed throughout time and its importance in its role throughout the war time period. This was particularly beneficial towards History students as well as those living within the area.
Background
As part of the D Day landing anniversary we felt as a school hearing about our local history, particularly the surrounding grounds of the school was an exciting and fitting way to show out support.

Impact
The audience were thoroughly enthralled within the evening and further questions continued over the coming weeks. one of which was exploring items found by residents within the grounds of their own properties and how these may have linked to the historical nature of the talk.
Pupil Involvement
Year 7 - 13 invited plus local community groups were invited such as scouts and Brownies.
