Primary Schools Maths Challenge with local primary schools
A maths challenge run by St George's maths department for teams of local Year 5 and 6 state primary school children.
Aims
The aim of the activity was to provide stimulating maths challenges to mathematically-able local children. This arose from discussions with the schools on areas of the curriculum they needed to develop. The immediate beneficiaries are the attendees and also the children at the schools who weren't able to attend as the visiting teachers were given all materials to use in class.
Background
This is the second annual maths challenge.
Resources
The St George's maths department developed specific resources for the event. Refreshments and lunch was also provided and teaching and catering staff were required. The event lasted two hours and we invited six teams of six mixed-gender pupils. There was no cost for visiting pupils.
Impact
Visiting children and staff were given a questionnaire to complete, which highlighted how challenging and interesting the event had been.
Pupil Involvement
St George's prefects and some of the lower-school matematicians popped in to offer their support.
