Activities Days for visiting Junior schools
St George's School hosts activity days for groups of children from a local junior school who are unable to go on Year 6 residential trips.
Aims
The aim of the day was to provide a fun range of activities for a group of children who were not able to go on their school residential visit. The need was identified by the Headteacher and depended on the use of St George's school facilities and staff availability.
Background
St George's School was approached by Connaught Primary asking to run the event. This was the third consecutive year.
Resources
School swimming pool, music and drama facilities, the library, dining hall, teachers and pupils. 5 teaching staff ran activities and the 6th form helped accompany the group to the various tasks as well as entertain them at lunch. St George's School provided lunch for the children.
Impact
The email feedback from the accompanying teachers was very positive, emphasising the fun the children had and how engaged they were. Several children tried things they had never done before such as acting and music.
Pupil Involvement
The pupils were from Y6. There were 20 in total and 5 support staff. 8 St George's School pupils helped with the day and 5 teachers.
Frequency
This ran from 8.40-2.30 and will continue as an annual event as long as there is a need from local primary schools.
