English Litreature Workshop
A performance of An Inspector Calls by The Globe Players theatre group with a Q&A session for pupils and GCSE examination tips performed to pupils at St George's and 70 pupils from Windsor Girls' School.
Aims
The aim of the visit was to provide GCSE pupils with the opportunity to see the text they are studying, An Inspector Calls, in the format for which it was intended to prepare them for their GCSE examination.
Background
The Partnerships and Outreach lead contacted St George's Head of English to see whether spaces in the school theatre could be filled with pupils from a local state secondary school thus utilising school resources and opportunities to support pupils who may not otherwise have an opportunity to see the play.
Resources
The Globe Players - which was paid for by St George's pupils, the school theatre, the theatre technician and teaching staff to supervise.
Impact
Windsor Girls School's Head of English wrote following the event and said the pupils who visited found the performance and Q&A extremely beneficial and helped them to have a deeper understanding of the play and key themes which will have a positive impact on GCSE performance. Pupils at St George's benefited from hearing questions from visiting pupils, enriching the Q&A session and St George's was also able to offer the opportunity cost free, thus saving money for the state school partner.
Pupil Involvement
The pupils were all female and all Year 10. All pupils, visiting and non, were invited to participate in the Q&A session and a lively, relevant discussion of themes and characters ensued.
Frequency
This can be repeated next academic year.
