Music performances
One music teacher and five pupils who are music scholars or studying music and AS/A2 level perform small scale concerts at local care homes and schools for the disabled. Different venues are visited each week. The concerts include solo items as well as ensembles and last about 30 minutes. Pupils are then encouraged to engage with the audience, talking to the residents.
Aims
To offer live classical music to people who would not otherwise be able to go to concerts; and to offer pupils the opportunity to perform.
Background
Canford approached local organisations to see whether they would like to put on concerts.
Resources
Nearly all the concerts take place at the local homes and schools, although twice a year local elderly residents come to concerts organised at Canford. One music teacher is always present at the concert, driving pupils to and from school, and playing int he concerts.
Pupil Involvement
Pupils of all ages, boys and girls, are involved, although most tend to be in 6th form.
Frequency
Two hours every Monday afternoon throughout the academic year.
