French Language Club
Primary students from Springhill come to KES on a weekly basis for an after school club for keen linguists over a period of eight weeks with the aim of inspiring students' interest in learning a language and raising attainment in a school with limited time allocation for MFL teaching. The sessions are led by KES sixth form students who are able linguists.
Aims
The aim of this club has been to inspire students' interest in learning a language and to help raise attainment in a school with limited time allocation for MFL teaching.
The need was identified by the primary school who are only able to set aside an hour a fortnight for language teaching, which they felt was not giving the best possible opportunities to their students.
Resources
The time given by two members of teaching staff from KES is the only critical resource required for this activity. They give up eight after school sessions to run this for an hour each time.
Impact
The feedback from the school has been extremely positive, with additional students asking to be involved.
Pupil Involvement
Around 12 students from Y5 and 6 of mixed gender have been involved in the past. This year 13 Year 4 students are participating.
Frequency
It is intended to continue to run this activity in future years, in the Autumn term.
