French Club
Year 4 students from a local primary school took part in a French language club during Spring 2022. The sessions were organised and led by a King Edward's French teacher and supported by KES students.
Aims
Pupils at Wordsworth receive one half hour lesson of French each week and the aim was to practise and develop the children's language skills beyond this.
For the Club to be successful, the time and expertise of the King Edward's French Department was required.
The pupils from Wordsworth directly benefit from the provision offered by King Edward's as they are able to develop their language skills further given the limited time available for Languages tuition in their curriculum.
Background
In discussions with the Head at Wordsworth, they expressed interest in a French Club for their students to participate in. There is limited time available in the primary curriculum to deliver Languages.
The Club with Wordsworth is new in 2022.
Resources
Around 15 pupils and their teacher were collected each week in a King Edward's minibus and brought up to the school site. The Club took place in our Languages department.
The time given by one of the School's French teachers is invaluable and the major resource for this Club.
Impact
The French teacher at Wordsworth commented on the value of, and opportunity provided by, the Club. We are hoping to develop our links with Wordsworth further, both in French and other areas.
Pupil Involvement
Around 15 Year 4 Wordsworth pupils and their teacher.
Students from King Edward's supported the sessions.
Frequency
The Club ran for three after school sessions in Spring 2022. It was scheduled to run for four sessions but the final session was cancelled due to Storm Eunice.
There is an aim to repeat this offering again, and hopefully for a longer period.
