Arts Festival: Highfield Primary School
The Arts Festival is a three day event at KES to which students from local primary schools are invited on the final afternoon. Students from Highfield were split into two groups; 17 took part in a Dhol Drumming workshop and 17 attended a Science of the Circus Workshop. They also attended the street theatre where a large variety of different acts performed over the lunch break.
Background
The Arts Festival was established a number of years ago, and it has been common practice to invite students from local schools to participate.
Resources
The resources critical to the success of this project are the leadership of the Head of Creative Arts who organises the whole event, the individual workshop leaders who are all paid to lead their sessions. The event lasts two hours and uses a large number of teaching and non-teaching staff. The cost was approximately £2.50 per pupil.
Pupil Involvement
35 students from Highfield Primary school were involved along with the entire school at KES, and participants from four other local and feeder schools.
Frequency
This is a bi-annual event.
