Year 6 Science Afternoons

The Year 6 Science Afternoons have continued this Michaelmas with two sessions supporting 80 local pupils. Lynch Hill Primary Academy and St Mary’s CofE School (both from Slough) enjoyed their visits to Eton College, Queen’s Schools, learning from hands-on experiments in each of the three sciences.

The school's Science Department hosted an afternoon of workshops in Biology, Chemistry and Physics for 40 local Year 6 primary school pupils from Grove Academy, Slough.

In biology they investigate owl pellets to discover what the owl had been eating. In physics, after a demonstration involving marshmallows, they investigate buoyancy. While in chemistry, after donning Eton Connect lab coats, they carry out a series of chemical experiments to create different reactions, before creating glow in the dark solutions.

Impact

A teacher from Lynch Hill Primary Academy, said of their visit: “An excellent afternoon of scientific awe and wonder! The children were fascinated by each challenge and the half-an-hour sessions flew by in no time. The children loved using their hands for each stage and the whole afternoon was deeply enriching.”
