Volunteering Programme

Every Thursday afternoon members of the Sixth Form volunteer at a variety of local organisations, including local primary schools, homes for the elderly, and the Royal United Hospital (RUH). Activities include helping in classrooms, serving refreshments on hospital wards and entertaining or talking to residents.

Aims

The aim of our Sixth Form Volunteering Programme is to support the local community and to provide valuable experiences to our students.

Background

The Volunteering Programme was set up by a member of staff over 15 years ago.

Resources

Each week approximately 30 sixth form pupils volunteer at a number of local schoosl and community centres for up to 2 hours per week.

School mini buses provide transport to the various centres. 

A teaching member of staff co-ordinates the programme with assistance from support staff.

Impact

The programme is reviewed annually by the co-ordinator and an Assistant Head.

Pupil Involvement

Volunteers are aged between 16-18yrs, with over 30 Sixth Form pupils typically participating in the scheme.

Frequency

The Volunteering Programme takes place each week during term time and is an ongoing, longstanding activity.
