Community Art Collaboration
King Edward's is working with Three Ways School in Bath, which is a Community Special School, to build partnerships and to support the creative links between the two schools.
The KES Art department has planned projects in line with the AQA UAS themes to support classroom teachers in delivery of workshops at Three Ways.
Art teachers at KES, with help from KES Sixth Form pupils, lead a series of workshops at Three Ways School in both the Autumn and Spring Term to collate the outcomes created in class at Three Ways and produce a series of Final Outcomes with the students.
In the Summer Term, the KES team will work with Three Ways School to run a series of workshops ending with an exhibition of the year's work.
Aims
To provide an opportunity for the Three Ways School students involved to demonstrate qualities to further support their personal development and for KES to build upon a partnership with Special Schools in the area.
These students, along with the KES Sixth Form pupils helping to run the workshops are the main beneficiaries of the partnership. The experience and opportunity to work collaboratively together is key to student development and understanding.
Background
The partnership, which was established in 2021, has come about via contact between a KES Art department teacher and a teacher at Three Ways School.
Resources
KES provides Art teachers and Sixth Form students to help run the workshops.
A total of three workshops will take place during the 2021/22 academic year.
Impact
Commenting on the first workshop which took place in November 2021, a staff member from Three Ways School, said: 'Three Ways Special School were delighted to host the first of a series of collaborative Art workshops with students and staff from King Edward's School. Two of our Secondary MLD & SLD classes worked alongside Sixth Form students from KES, creating 2D and 3D works based on the topic 'Myself'.
'It was wonderful to see Three Ways children interacting and sharing ideas with people from outside of the Three Ways community. Students and staff from KES delivered an engaging workshop ensuring that everyone had clear understanding of the project brief and were comfortable and able to access all creative tools to successfully complete their art piece.'
Pupil Involvement
Year 13 KES students help run the workshops, which are put on for Three Ways School students aged 11-12 yrs and another group aged 13-14 yrs.
Frequency
There are three workshops planned for the academic year, with one taking place each term.
We hope to run the workshops each year.
