Primary School Drama Workshop

Our Head of Drama recently led a Drama Workshop with Year 4 children at Combe Down Primary School.

The workshops explored Roman Culture, to coincide with the children's current topic. Led by our Head of Drama, pupils looked at the status of slaves, plebs, senators etc and explored drama scenes using key quotes from Emperors such as Caligula, Nero and Tiberius to convey being proud, angry or scary.

Aims

Inspired by our Primary School Activities Week in July 2002, which included Drama Workshops in a week-long programme of activities, our Head of Drama wanted to continue offering outreach drama activities to local primary schools, where teachers there had identified a need for drama resources.

2 x workshops took place during November involving Year 5 pupils at Combe Down Primary School (sixty children in total).

Background

The workshops arose from conversations between our Head of Drama and teachers at the primary school during drama workshops hosted at KES during the summer, as part of the School's annual week-long programme of activities for local primary schools involving 200+ pupils from local schools.

The Drama workshops at Combe Down Primary School are a new initiative which we hope to continue in future years.

Resources

The workshops were organised and run by our Head of Drama, supported by a teacher and TA at the primary school.

Pupil Involvement

No KES pupils were involved in the activity, rather it was teacher led.
