Sharing the love of Theatre with local schools
Play in a Day
Ponsbourne Primary School has the use of Queenswood's theatre where they put on a play from scratch in one day. We want to share Queenswood facilities with the wider community.
Ponsbourne had access to the 280 seater theatre, two theatre technicians, staff to meet and greet and refreshments. We hope this had a positive impact for the students providing them with an opportunity to experience performing in a purpose built theatre.
This is an annual event in the run up to Christmas.
Theatrical experience for Year 6 pupils
Since the opening of the Clarissa Farr Theatre in 2006 and the introduction of the annual Lower School production, the opportunity has arisen to invite a wide range of local schoolchildren from the state and independent sectors to experience drama at Queenswood. The schools are invited to participate in music, drama and dance workshops culminating in short performances on our stage, before watching a full performance by Queenswood pupils in the afternoon.
Year 6 pupils from at Northaw school and Brookman's Park Primary were invited to see a production of the Lower School summer production "Dracular Spectacular". Performers and back stage crew were from Queenswood's Years 7,8 and 9. Year 6 pupils.
We wanted to invite pupils from local schools to experience a live theatrical performance and provide pupils with an educational and entertaining theatrical experience to broaden their experience of live theatre.
The invitation builds on previous similar invitations and close links with the school via Queenwood’s Bursar being on the Governing body of Brookman's. This activity gave Northaw's pupils an opportunity to experience live theatre. It is hoped that this occasion has helped to stimulate creativity in the performing arts.
