Community action in Botswana
In conjunction with a partner school in Botswana, Maru-a-Pula, Queenswood girls helped to support community group leaders in caring for/teaching primary aged children.
Aims
To provide support for basic teaching and caring duties.
To provide Queenswood girls with an opportunity to serve in a community that lacks resources, both human and material.
Background
The project is the inspiration of Queenswood Houseparents, Helen and Jeremy long who prviously worked at Maru-a-Pula School and were aware of the lcoal community need.
Resources
The time invested by Helen and Jeremy Long to plan the visit and to accompany the girls to Botswana.
Impact
Feedback received from teh local community leaders was very appreciative.
The girls gained an insight into a community that was less fortunate than their own and they also benefited in serving others, helping to create more rounded individuals.
Pupil Involvement
Twenty year 11 and Sixth Form Queenswood pupils have been involved in the two visits to Garborone.
More than 20 primary age boys and girls from teh local Garborone community were involved.
